So, my baby Liz got engaged last week! It is hard to believe some of you have been reading about her since she was a baby or have even gotten to know her and her new fiancé through deliveries. It’s a strange feeling when all your babies have grown up! So my new son’s name is Matthew, and we are all proud to have him! While Matt and Liz plan on sticking around and helping me, all my other children are doing their thing across the country. Cj just took my mom and Calliope to visit Tyler, Cassie and their two kids River and Laiklee, in Idaho. Tyler and Cassie just patented their Horse product called TailBoot, and sales are great. They are also growing in their greenhouse, training horses, and of course Rodeoing as much as possible. Lyza, Andy and Daphine are happy in Texas. Lyza teaches 2nd grade in the city of Fort Worth and just started an amazing Garden Club at her school! She applied and received a grant last summer and since then has had a great turnout. As for Betsy and I, we have had a blast spending our summers traveling around visiting all our grandbabies!
Things are going well here on the farm. Crops look good but always hoping for more sunshine. We are well into our IPM Program and will be releasing over 2 billion beneficials this spring. Last years program was a huge success, and we are hoping to do the same this year. We have introduced a few new exciting My Gardens: Tiger nuts, Jungle Peanuts, Goose Berries, Mexican Cucumbers, Quinoa, and 3 Chile peppers, Shishito, Hatch and Anihiem. We are also introducing 3 new programs! The Wellness Garden, which will be large containers filled with plants for teas, tinctures, aromatherapy, and general phytonutrient uses. Our second program, Seed Saviors, will introduce your customers to a grassroots movement to save seeds for future generations. It is believed that over 90% of seed types have already been lost. The third program is called Forage for Freedom, this program will teach your customers identification, cultivation, and uses of common plants we call weeds. Foraging is another grass roots movement becoming more popular among those wishing to be more sustainable. These 3 new programs are a little out of touch with reality but hold the pieces to a much bigger picture. Educating people on these aspects of life is of greater value to me than making money. We here at North Guilford Nurseries believe that it takes Something Different to inspire change and growth not only in the garden but in our lives.
